E.ON to connect over 1M devices on 450connect’s network in the coming years
The framework agreement with 450connect announced last Friday includes the procurement of radio services with a total contract volume of around half a billion euros up to the year 2040. E.ON’s network companies will be able to use the radio services for crisis and operational communication starting in 2023.
This should make important parts of the critical infrastructure independent of public fixed or mobile networks that are not available in certain situations, such as large-scale power failures or other crises. By 2040, more than one million smart meters are to be triggered using LTE450 technology in this way.
In addition, E.ON will connect around 28,000 digital local network stations via the 450 MHz frequency by the end of 2026. The benefit is not limited to crisis situations: Even in regular operation, the 450 MHz spectrum as a flexibly usable communication channel should make an important contribution to the digitization of the German energy landscape.
