At the 84th Plenary Meeting of 3GPP RAN (3rd-6th June, 2019 in Newport Beach, California), 3GPP approved two new bands in the 400 MHz frequency range:
- Band 87, from 410-415 MHz uplink and 420-425 MHz downlink
- Band 88, from 412-417 MHz uplink and 422-427 MHz downlink
This is an important step forward in the harmonized development of chipsets, modules, devices and network equipment in the 400 MHz band. In previous years, 3GPP RAN also defined bands 31, 72 and 73, which are located between 450 and 470 MHz. The full picture of the 400 MHz frequency range is now looks as follows:
