Virtual Access Renewables Gateway for 450 MHz networks

Virtual Access Gateways provide border between DSO & DER (Distributed Energy Resource) assets – supporting B72 or B87 networks.

The EU directive on distributed generation means that DSO’s will need  to connect & control Distributed Energy Resources such as PV farms. This poses challenges to DSO’s such as

• How will DER’s be controlled and monitored – for example, using existing SCADA or newer techniques such as MQTT?
• How to deal with the wide variety of DER devices and control protocols / interfaces?
• Cyber security – how to ensure there is no network leakage from the DER owners network onto the DSO SCADA network.
