Nokia will build a network in the 450 MHz and 410 MHz bands to enable Industry 4.0 cases in Argentina
The company Alvis will deploy the first network that will combine the 450 MHz and 410 MHz bands in Argentina to provide connectivity to rural areas where intense agricultural activity is carried out and reach both productive areas and underserved populations in terms of connectivity. Nokia was the company chosen to make that deployment.
Nokia will build a 5G-ready LTE network that will serve more than 36 rural areas of Argentina. The company has experience in these infrastructures because it was in charge of the construction of the LTE networks mounted on the 400 MHz band in the Middle East.
The objective, in this case, will be to provide connectivity to promote use cases of Industry 4.0 in agriculture, energy distribution, security and location services for people and horses in rural areas.
Alvis is the only operator in the country licensed to operate in the 450 MHz band in more than 100 cities, which will operate commercially. This network will be combined with deployments in the 410 MHz band in experimental mode to take advantage of the long range they generate and, thus, support the business cases that are intended to be promoted and that, in the future, will be crucial for 5G deployments whose first impacts will occur in economies.
In a statement, Marcelo Dumanjió, CEO of Alvis, explained that “The network will allow us to provide internet service in sub-urban and rural areas by connecting their equipment, fixed facilities, machinery (harvesters, tractors, seed drills, trucks), silobags, weather stations, for example, and other fixed and mobile connectivity needs to be connected.
For his part, Marcelo Entreconti, director of Nokia Enterprise for Latin America, said that in the company they are very excited to “… be part of this innovative project, which will connect thousands of Argentines for the first time, reducing the digital divide and facilitating education, health and entertainment services. The network is also designed to provide connectivity services to various business sectors, opening new sources of income for ALVIS and people in the area.”
