Plenary Meeting, 9 September, Hong Kong

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — The 450 MHz Alliance held its annual Asia meeting on September 9, 2014 in Hong Kong with more than 50 attendees from operators, network equipment suppliers and device vendors. Representatives from all continents underlined the increasing interest of market participants in the 450 MHz spectrum.

In a lively discussion preceded by informative presentations from leading 450 MHz operators and vendors, the participants talked about ways going forward from both business and technical perspectives. The 450 MHz Alliance will take into account the inputs from the participants and will work to develop the market and technology to meet the demand for wide area data and voice coverage.

“450 MHz Alliance had another successful plenary meeting in Hong Kong.  We are pleased with the progress with which 450 MHz ecosystem is growing. It is a clear indication that the industry is on the rise recognizing a great potential of the 450 MHz spectrum”, said Igor Virker, Chairman of 450 MHz Alliance.

450 MHz spectrum was the first spectrum used for mobile communication worldwide starting in the early nineteen-eighties. Given its superior radio wave propagation, it provides most cost effective coverage, both in terms of area and in-building penetration.  This coverage benefit now becomes a key ingredient for making global impact by improving people’s lives.

Ubiquitous area coverage providing connectivity to all businesses and people, in particular in rural and underdeveloped areas, is a prerequisite for global development. As 450 MHz networks are demonstrating in Scandinavia, in Russia and in some parts of Asia, Africa and Latin America – no other frequency can provide basic voice and data connectivity as cost effectively as 450 MHz networks.

Given its advantages, 450 MHz-based technologies are emerging as technologies of choice for numerous smart applications wherever mobile connectivity is required. 450 MHz Alliance will be focusing its efforts on assisting in developing a robust ecosystem and enabling rapid growth of smart applications across vertical markets. That, in essence and ultimately, can be dubbed as “Smart Countries”.

The 450MHz Alliance is strongly committed to the concept of “Smarter Countries” by using 450 MHz networks not only to provide ubiquitous coverage but the essential communication facility for reliably and efficiently managing information flows. First deployments of 450MHz networks that are primarily focusing on this long-term need are under way in several European markets, focusing on critical communication services for utilities, transport, industry and public safety.
